Creator Marketing Has Acquired a Second Audience
Creator marketing was built to influence people. A new partnership between creator agency Influencer and AI-search platform Profound is explicitly asking marketers to consider another audience: the answer engines that retrieve, summarize and recommend creator content.
The companies call the model Creator-First AEO. Profound identifies the prompts, competitor advantages and evidence patterns shaping AI answers. Influencer then develops creator-led reviews, comparisons, demonstrations and real-world experiences. Profound measures subsequent changes in citations, visibility and brand representation.[1]
The commercial idea is important. A product comparison on YouTube, a technical demonstration on LinkedIn or a detailed creator review may remain retrievable after the normal impression window closes. Creator investment can therefore influence both immediate human attention and the evidence environment from which AI systems construct answers.
But there is a dangerous shortcut hidden inside the opportunity:
Creators are not "new backlinks" that brands should buy to manipulate ChatGPT. They are potential sources of independent corroboration that AI systems may retrieve when checking whether a brand's claims are credible.
That distinction separates durable AEO strategy [blocked] from the next wave of synthetic authority spam.
What Profound and Influencer Actually Launched
The 26 August announcement describes a continuous operating loop rather than a one-off campaign.[1]
| Stage | Profound's role | Influencer's role | Evidence required |
|---|---|---|---|
| Diagnose | Identify prompts, competitors, citations and representation gaps | Interpret the cultural and creator context | Reproducible prompt set and dated baseline |
| Design | Show what evidence appears in AI answers | Select creators and formats that can test the product honestly | Clear brief, disclosure and creator independence |
| Publish | Track whether content is discoverable and cited | Produce reviews, comparisons, demonstrations and experiences | Accessible content with specific observations |
| Measure | Monitor answers, citations and brand representation | Refine the next creator program | Separate visibility change from causal sales impact |
Independent industry coverage says the process may influence which creators brands hire and how videos are titled or described, while noting that creator AEO is not unique to this partnership and remains an emerging discipline.[2]
The launch announcement is promotional evidence from the two vendors. It does not establish that a particular creator post causes a model to recommend a brand, nor that every answer engine treats creator content the same way. Those limitations should be part of the strategy, not hidden in the footnotes.
Reach and Evidence Are Different Marketing Assets
Traditional creator planning begins with audience: who follows the creator, who saw the post and who clicked. Creator-First AEO adds questions about retrievability and proof.
Did the creator document an experience that a buyer would find useful months later? Is the claim specific enough to verify? Can an answer engine identify the product, use case, author and date? Does the creator explain trade-offs, or merely repeat approved copy?
A creator with a smaller expert audience may produce a stronger evidence asset than a celebrity with millions of followers. A technical review that shows a product succeeding and failing under defined conditions can carry more verification value than a polished endorsement.
This is why the useful unit is not only reach. It is creator corroboration.
Owned content tells AI systems what the company claims. Independent creators can supply first-hand observations that support, qualify or contradict those claims. That evidence may then sit alongside customer documentation, expert analysis, product pages, forums and news coverage in the wider information graph.
Our B2B credibility-stack analysis [blocked] explains why this cross-source consistency matters. AI visibility is not produced by one optimized page. It emerges from what multiple retrievable sources collectively say.
Modi's PoV: GEO Is Evidence Portfolio Management
Marketers are used to thinking about creator content as rented distribution. The contract buys access to a person's audience for a defined period.
AI-mediated discovery changes the residual value of the work. A genuinely useful comparison or demonstration can become part of the brand's evidence portfolio long after the campaign's paid reach ends.
That does not mean the brand owns the creator's conclusion. In fact, excessive control destroys the very independence that makes corroboration valuable.
The strategic objective should be to commission credible experiences, not favorable sentences. If a product has limitations, the creator should be able to explain them. If an alternative is better for a particular user, the comparison should say so. The content should remain valuable even if no large language model ever retrieves it.
This gives AEO teams a more mature operating principle:
Do not manufacture agreement. Build a portfolio of independent, attributable evidence that helps humans and machines make a better decision.
The Creator Evidence Graph
A useful measurement framework evaluates six dimensions rather than reducing the program to citation count.
1. Source Authority
Does the creator have demonstrable experience in the subject? Expertise should be visible through authored work, credentials, tests and the quality of prior analysis, not follower count alone.
2. Independence and Disclosure
Was compensation disclosed clearly? Could the creator express a negative or qualified view? Hidden sponsorship can create consumer-protection risk and weaken trust if discovered.
3. Topical Relevance
Does the content answer a real buyer question in sufficient depth? A broad lifestyle endorsement is unlikely to help with a technical enterprise comparison.
4. Retrievability
Can search and answer systems access the transcript, description, headings and supporting evidence? Closed or image-only content may generate attention without leaving a machine-readable trail.
5. Representation Influence
Does the creator appear in answers about the monitored category? Did citation share, factual accuracy or brand framing change after publication? Treat this as observed association unless a controlled test supports causation.
6. Commercial Outcome
Did qualified discovery, assisted conversion, branded search, sales-cycle velocity or win rate change? Connect this to broader marketing measurement rather than assigning every downstream result to the creator post.

A How-To Workflow for Creator-First AEO
Start with a focused category rather than the whole brand. Select ten to twenty high-value buyer questions where first-hand experience can materially improve the answer: implementation difficulty, integration quality, product trade-offs, support, time to value and comparison with alternatives.
Create a dated baseline across the answer engines that matter. Record which brands appear, what sources are cited, what claims are repeated and where the answer is inaccurate or incomplete.
Then choose creators because they can investigate the question, not because they promise positive coverage. Give them access to the product, documentation, experts and realistic use cases. Require disclosure and factual accuracy, but preserve editorial independence.
Publish in formats that remain useful and retrievable: full transcripts, descriptive titles, explicit product/entity names, structured comparisons and links to primary evidence. Avoid keyword stuffing or scripts written purely for models.
Finally, measure in layers. Monitor answer visibility and citations, but also track source quality, narrative accuracy, assisted conversions and sales feedback. If AI representation changes, record the timing and alternative explanations. If it does not, the content can still be successful if buyers found it useful.
The Manipulation Risk Marketers Must Avoid
Search marketing already learned what happens when a valuable signal becomes a purchasable shortcut. Backlinks began as an indicator that other sites found a page useful. A market then formed around manufacturing the signal itself.
Creator AEO could repeat that cycle if brands optimize for favorable mentions without independent experience. The result would be networks of sponsored pages, videos and posts designed to create the appearance of consensus.
That strategy is vulnerable on three fronts. Consumers may reject undisclosed or scripted endorsements. Regulators can act against misleading advertising. Answer engines can reduce the weight of repetitive, coordinated or low-quality sources.
The white-hat alternative is simpler: fund rigorous experiences, disclose the relationship and accept that trustworthy evidence can contain criticism.

The Bottom Line
Creator-First AEO is a meaningful signal that creator marketing, digital PR, reputation and AI search are converging. The partnership's workflow is plausible: diagnose the answer environment, activate creators and measure subsequent changes.
The evidence does not yet justify a promise that creator activity causes AI recommendations or sales. Brands should treat citation and representation changes as observable indicators, then test commercial incrementality separately.
Creators are becoming part of the information environment around the brand. The durable advantage will not come from paying them to say the same thing. It will come from enabling independent people to produce specific, retrievable evidence that makes the brand easier to evaluate.
